Faces of Rushcutters Bay — Tony Memmelo
How long have you lived worked in the area?
I live in Mascot but have worked in the area for over 30 years.
Firstly in Double Bay for over 13 years and in Edgecliff now for coming up to 18 years.
What type of business do you run?
I have been in private Chiropractic practice for 32 years now. My first year was working for the previous owner then I took over the practice and have been practicing in the same clinic since. For those who have not been to a chiropractor or do not really know what chiropractors do, we treat neuromusculoskeletal conditions through soft tissue release, peripheral and spinal joint release techniques which we call “adjustments”
What do you like most about your job?
I really enjoy working with people. I enjoy trying to figure out the cause of their problems and administering the right treatment for them. I enjoy educating patients on how their body functions and what they can do to help themselves. I enjoy working in conjunction with other health professionals such as yourselves at Rushcutters Health to help patients rehabilitate and achieve wellness and how to stay well.
Where do you find inspiration?
I Find inspiration in people. I’m inspired by their stories of life, their challenges and their successes and so am inspired to help when they need help. I’m also inspired by the innate intelligence the body has to organise and coordinate itself to function without so much as a conscious thought.
How do you like to exercise?
I love to walk. But I walk fast. I think it is a very underrated exercise, but it is important to walk with purpose. Otherwise its like standing still. You need to get the heart rate up and maintain that for at least 45 minutes. I walk every day after work. I also practice yoga daily before my walks. I particularly enjoy hot yoga and would do at least three sessions a week of that style. I also swim regularly and enjoy a surf, less so in winter. I also find my work is good exercise. I’m thankful that I don’t have a sedentary occupation.
What are some of you favourite restaurants/ café Hangout?
I do enjoy a good coffee from Bar Latte or The Green Bowl in Edgecliff. Otherwise I’m bit of a home body and enjoy hanging out and cooking for my children when they visit. I don’t mind a good pub trivia with mates also.
