Faces of Rushcutters Bay: Paul Harrison

How long have you lived or worked in the area?

My wife and I have lived up the road in Darlinghurst for the past 15 years, and I’ve always had physio practices in the CBD during this time – this is my first work venture in Rushcutters Bay and I’m super excited as we are always down here in the park with our kids. If you’re looking for personal training in Darlinghurst, I can now offer my expertise closer to home.

What type of business do you run?

I call it specialist sports physio for the amateur athlete. I came from a background of working with professional sportspeople, and wanted to bring that same expertise to those of us who take our activity seriously and want to stay as fit as possible, but have to fit workouts around the rest of their busy lives. Whether you need physiotherapy or personal training in Darlinghurst, my practice is designed to help you achieve your fitness goals.

What do you like most about your job?

Seeing the change you can make to quality of life through the management of pain and restoring function – from the simplest ankle sprain to the most complicated post-surgical rehab, it’s all about discovering what makes people tick, and then giving them the tools to help themselves get back to where they want to be…I love being a part of that journey and hearing people’s stories along the way. Many of my clients benefit greatly from personalized attention and personal training in Darlinghurst.

Where do you find inspiration?

I’ve been lucky enough to be able to stay active throughout my life with only minor injuries, but I know how hard it can be for people to return to exercise after operations, chronic injuries or even just a long period of inactivity – there’s been hundreds of inspiring stories along the way, especially those older athletes who get back into it and show me it’s never too late to be awesome!

How do you like to exercise?

I grew up playing basketball and still love to play twice a week – everyone in our team is over 40 and we can still give the young kids a run for their money! I know I should do more stretching and weights to help my ageing joints so am looking forward to using Rushcutters Health’s great facilities, which are perfect for those seeking personal training in Darlinghurst.

What are some of your Favourite restaurants/cafés/hangout?

Most weekends we go to The Organic Bread Bar for beaut bakery treats and pretzels for the kids, La Panchina is our fav family pizza joint in Surry Hills as it’s right next to a great playground, and my wife and I love a date night at Casoni at Taylor Square (and if we’re really lucky we’ll end up down the lane at Shady Pines Saloon for a cocktail and great live music).

What is your Favourite holiday destination

I’ve been super lucky and just come back from a week away with friends climbing in the NZ Southern Alps, and that will be hard to beat – exhausting but rewarding, with amazing natural scenery, from watching the sunrise across the mountains from our tent on the glacier to seeing more stars than I ever thought possible. Our best family holiday was in Mexico last year eating delicious food all day, swimming in the crystal clear cenotes, and meeting the wonderfully friendly locals.
